13 Ways to Increase Google Adsense Earnings

Here I have discussed 13 ways to increase Google Adsense earnings for a website.

Over the past 7 years, I have been using and experimenting with Adsense. As a result, I am glad to share these effective ways that will increase your website’s Google AdSense earnings. These techniques will double your Adsense Ads’ click-through rate (CTR) and cost per click (CPC).

13 Ways to Increase Google Adsense Earnings

Activate Microsoft Clarity

Microsoft Clarity is a free behavior analytic tool from Microsoft that records user screen engagement. Activate Microsoft Clarity to see where your visitor is clicking, scrolling, and spending most of the time on the page.

This will take 3 days to gather a good amount of information about your visitor’s behavior. After that, you have to check the data where most of the clicks and scroll actions are happening.

Place one Adsense Ad unit at the part of the web page where most of the click happens. The second ad unit can be placed where the user scrolls at the time when the website is loaded. And don’t forget to remove the Ads unit, where there is almost zero engagement.

Use Few Ads Unit

Too many ads, result in ad fatigue, where visitors become desensitized to the ads and are less likely to click on them.

In addition to that, it also negatively impacts the user experience by slowing down the page load time, making the page look cluttered, which leads to a higher bounce rate. All this can lead to a decrease in CTR and ultimately lower earnings.

Optimizing your ad placement, and ad formats, and targeting the right audience can help you improve your AdSense CTR and increase your revenue.

Use Vignette Ads

Vignette Ads are one of the best-performing Ads units due to their high visibility, especially on mobile devices as they appear between page loads. You can increase your Adsense revenue by creating effective internal links to improve the CTR on Vignette Ads.

Vignette Ads can be activated from the “Overlay Format” section in the website’s Adsense Auto-Ad features.

Take full advantage of the Vignette Ads by creating an effective cluster of articles that people will like to click on to get further information.

For example, the “Best Cloud Hostings for WordPress” article will have links to the Full Review of each Hosting Provider that is mentioned in the article.

Improve Website loading Speed

The website loading speed is a crucial factor that can potentially double AdSense earnings but is often overlooked by website owners. Websites that load quickly are appreciated by visitors, Google, and advertisers alike.

The first step in improving the loading speed is to check your website TTFB (Time to First Byte) which is a measurement of the time taken by the browser to receive the first byte of data from the server. In my opinion, this is the most important factor in analyzing the speed of a website.

To improve the TTFB, use Cloudflare CDN with Argo and APO activated. It greatly improves the website TTFB and the Adsense CTR.

Secondly, make sure you are using a good quality hosting service. Currently, I’m using Cloudways VH hosting, and it is quite fast and stable.

Increase Body Text Size

By increasing the website body text size to 19 or 20 for mobile and desktop, you can greatly increase the Adsense Ads click rate. Moreover, by doing this the Ads visibility is also increased. This is one of the most underrated tips that most website owners just don’t think of implementing.

Don’t Use Java Script Delay

I’m against the use of Java Script Delay from any WordPress plugin like WP Rocket or Flying Scripts. It has a bad impact on Adsense CTR, ultimately lowering your Adsense earnings.

People used it to get 100 scores on Google page speed insights. But trust me, just focus on getting pass scores for CLS(Cumulative Layout Shift) and TTFB. That’s what matters and this will never hurt your Google rankings.

So, just disable the Java Script Delay feature now and in a few days, you’ll see your Adsense earnings going up.

Use high CPC Keywords

The next thing you should do to increase your Adsense earnings is to add high CPC keywords in your article or create new articles with them. There are tools like Ubersuggest, Ahrefs, or the Google Keyword Planner that provide information about the keywords CPC.

Keyword CPC is the cost-per-click rate at which advertisers pay for a click on that keyword. So for high CPC keywords, the advertiser will pay more and this will ultimately increase the impression & page RPM.

Target Tier One Countries

CPC rates also depend on the visitor’s country and type of niche. If your visitors are mainly from the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, etc. then you’re earnings per ad click or impressions will be very high.

So, if you are working on a niche website that generates most of the revenue with display ads then always write content targeted towards the United States audience or other tier-1 countries.

Use Google Adsense Alternative Ezoic or Mediavine

Various Google Adsense alternatives like Ezoic or Mediavine can be used to get the maximum profit out of your traffic. Enrolling in Ezoic is easy as they also accept startup sites that get monthly traffic of less than one thousand. It is recommended to have an Adsense account before joining Ezoic, however, it is not compulsory.

On the other hand, Mediavine is also an excellent advertising management service and is preferred over Ezoic in most cases. Mediavine requires 50,000 sessions per 30-day period with most of the traffic from the United States, Canada, the UK, or any other tier-one countries. The Mediavine service is quite popular among bloggers who work in lifestyle, food, and travel niche.

Avoid using Google Auto In-Page Ads

This is not just me talking against Google Auto Ads. On various Facebook groups and Reddit forums, people have shared their experience with Google-Auto Ads reducing their Google Adsense income from what they were earning with manual ads.

I have tried using Google Auto Ads on multiple niche websites, but unfortunately, it has never yielded positive results.

I am not sure what methods or techniques Google uses for their A.I. to determine the appropriate positions for their Ads, but they never seem to perform well.

For my websites, I typically utilize a mix of anchor and Vignette ads from the Auto-ads section along with one or two manual ad units.

Place one Ad unit above the Fold

Install the Ads Inserter Plugin for your WordPress website and use it to add Adsense ad unit code at the “Above Content” position.

This one ad unit at the above-the-fold position will perform better than the multiple ad units below the fold.

Use Premium Free Themes

If you are serious about your websites, then never go for cheap WordPress themes. Either buy the popular premium themes or use the top free themes from the WordPress directory.

For your Adsense website, I suggest using either Generate Press or Astra as they are the most stable, simple, and lightweight WordPress themes I have come across after testing many over the years.

The fast loading of these themes ensures high visibility of my Adsense ads, improving the chance of clicks.

Focus on Organic Traffic

Always work hard on the SEO part of your website that will increase your Website’ organic traffic from Google.

This type of traffic is highly valuable to advertisers who want to target individuals searching for a particular keyword and ultimately end up on your website.

In contrast to organic traffic, social media traffic holds little worth due to low buyer intent from visitors. They may have arrived at your website via clickbait techniques or excess sharing of links, but the real value is missing. That’s why Google Adsense doesn’t recommend going for social media channels to gain traffic to increase your revenue.

My Startup Niche Website using Adsense

I would like to share an example of my niche website, which saw an increase in Adsense CTR after I applied the methods I shared in this post.

Below is the screenshot displaying the Adsense account details for one of my niche sites over 7 days. On average, the website receives a 17.58% click-through rate (CTR) resulting in an earnings of $26.76 with only 529 page views per day.

To make sure that my Adsense accounts are safe from any invalid click activities, I use Ad Invalid Click Protector (AICP). This guarantees that all of the clicks on ads are legitimate.

Keep in Mind

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced AdSense publisher, these steps will undoubtedly provide a significant boost to your website’s revenue. But keep in mind that certain factors such as niche, target country, and CPC of keywords should be given high priority when creating a profitable website.
